Nanjing brocade, rendered in light and form

The interior concept draws on the cloud forms of classical Chinese art and the brocade textile tradition for which Nanjing is historically celebrated. Four key atriums are each differentiated by a distinct cloud shape, studies of natural cloud formations translated into architectural form. The motif extends through every level: suspended sculptures in the triple-height entrance void, clusters of circular mirrors in bathrooms, and sweeping ceiling louvres through the retail corridors, flowing like jet streams.

An underground street on the Qinhuai

The first basement level is designed around the theme of the New Qinhuai River. The interior recreates an indoor Nanjing-style riverside street approximately 400m long, drawing on the character of one of the city’s most historically resonant waterways to create a distinctly local retail environment below ground.
